bbridgestweet 300x163 The End of Standardized Testing as We Know It?

One of my friends just sent this article via Twitter. If you need a little enticement to read here’s the most interesting quote.

“The solution to low test scores is not lower standards; it’s tougher, clearer standards,” (President Obama) argued.

At the same time, however, he urged states to develop standards “that don’t simply measure whether students can fill in a bubble on a test but whether they possess 21st century skills like problem-solving and critical thinking, entrepreneurship and creativity.”

Its going to be an interesting four years….

Update: Here’s a link to Obama’s full speech from today and his exact statement:

“And I’m calling on our nation’s governors and state education chiefs to develop standards and assessments that don’t simply measure whether students can fill in a bubble on a test, but whether they possess 21st century skills like problem-solving and critical thinking and entrepreneurship and creativity.”
