Tonight there was a fascinating piece on 60 Minutes about electronic waste that is exported from the United States to China. The Electronic Waste documents how America’s best green intentions are actually creating ecological disasters in rural, impoverished communities in China. If you are a consumer of electronic goods (so that means all of us) you should be watch the clip above.

That’s what I am curious about. Where does the e waste go? In the 60 Minutes story the waste that ended up in China polluting everything actually came from a free e-waste recycling day in Denver. In spite of international law they just dumped it on some cargo ship and sent it to rural China via Tacoma and Hong Kong.
I’m very relieved that starting in January, we will have access to free “e-cycling” here. No curbside pick-up, but several waste management companies are going to be providing pick-up stations…and will take care of items from there.
