Podcasts & Podcasting

Mr Woods Podcasts Podcasts & PodcastingOne of my big projects for this summer is learning how to podcast. “What is a podcast,” you may wonder? I am personally very new to this technology, but I would think of a podcast as basically a radio broadcast, but over the computer. One of the nice features of a podcast is that you can subscribe to them. If you have iTunes installed on your computer and you have subscribed to a particular podcast, iTunes will download the latest version of that podcast to your computer. Two of my favorite classroom-related podcasts are ColeyCast and Radio WillowWeb. Each of these podcasts is created by students (with the technical help of their teachers) for other students. Take a moment to listen to a few of their shows and see what you think. Many companies and educational instructions also create and broadcast audio and video podcasts. A collection of these podcasts can be found on iTunes in the Podcast Directory. I am still trying to figure out the best way to use this technology in my classroom for next year, so if you have any ideas let me know. Also, if you live near me there are always podcasting classes held at our local county office of education.

PS: Check out my logo. One of my students, Spencer, made it for me. Now I just need some content….
