Free Rice Grows!

by Joe on October 15, 2008

Free Rice Grows!I’m sitting in the convention center lobby waiting to start my presentation in another thirty minutes or so.  While, I’m waiting I’ve been catching up on my Google Reader account.  As I dug through my unread items I found a post from Burt Lo all about Free Rice.  I’ve played this vocabulary building game in the past with my students.  Even though it was not science-related we would have Free Rice Fridays were period  would earn grains of rice and try to beat each other for total grains earned.

After reading Burt’s post I found out Free Rice now contains games for math, science (chemical symbols), geography, and foreign languages.  I have been playing the German version to enhance my skills for tomorrow night’s class at Sacramento’s Turn Verein.  So far I’ve earned about 200 grains. Check it out and earn some rice yourself!

Thanks for the heads up! I loved this site before but I really love it now. I am just getting ready to start teaching the periodic table and the chemistry symbols practice is just the thing I was looking for. You always seem to know just what I need when I need it! Keep up the good work.
