I think you have a good point. I have always wondered how small you can go before it start to become less inefficient and more of a pain to use. But I do know the netbooks are on the verge of becoming a really popular product... maybe mac will have one...

I'm not sure what outcome I was hoping for. Part of me really want the iTouch to be a clear winner, but I wasn't totally familiar with the iTouch. I must admit I am keyboard reliant which made me root for the laptop. I wish we lived in an ideal universe where schools would provide every student with an iTouch and use of a netbook at school. Alas, we don't so schools must choose. So I agree that the netbook is probably the best choice. (I just wish I had daily access to a set of them. My district is replacing the HS writing lab with 12" netbooks. I think that the English Department will find them inadequate because of the compact keyboards. We'll see.)

I also think that many districts would oppose providing what they see as a hand-held game console to students to take home. Many parents would also think we were wasting our limited resources. Districts in California might be more willing since it appears to be farther ahead in technology ubiquitous and in truly integrating it into the curriculum. Here in rural Michigan, it is still a struggle to get educators do anything other than word processing and ineffective internet research with their classes.

BTW, I was wondering when you'd report this. Glad you did (finally).

I agree too :-) ...however if the rumors are correct, http://www.macrumors.com/2009/07/22/apple-to-release-subsidized-tablet-through-verizon-later-this-year/ some of the cons appear to be addressed....with exception of the monthly bill for network access of course :-)
